Parish Elections take place in November each year, with nominations being sought from St Andrew's parishioners in early October.
Prior to the parish election, all nominations will be published in the Gazette Officielle, with the Parish Election being held at the November Parish Meeting.
To participate, whether as a candidate, nominator, seconder, or voter, you must be on the St Andrews electoral roll. Nominations must be submitted to the St Andrews Constables' Office by the October deadline.
If you're interested in serving as Constable or Douzenier, you will need to be proposed and seconded by parishioners on the electoral roll. Elections are a chance to engage with the community, take part in decision-making, and help shape the future of St Andrews, including setting parish rates and managing parish properties.
If you're passionate about keeping the parish safe, tidy, and well-run, you could be one of 14 individuals who volunteer their time to make a difference. The role offers a chance to influence key issues and support local initiatives.
Constables and Douzeniers come from all walks of life, and diversity of backgrounds and skills is encouraged. Whether you bring financial expertise, knowledge of local issues like schools and traffic, business experience or building skills, there’s a role for you. The main requirement is a commitment to improving the community and engaging with parishioners.
Douzaine meetings are held on the last Monday of the month in the evening, lasting about two hours, making it feasible to combine the role with a full-time job or other responsibilities. You may also participate in sub-committees or represent the parish at meetings with States officials or Deputies.
To stand for election as a Douzenier or Constable, you must:
